Whilst having many structural load properties Cast Iron can sometimes have its faults. This section of internal drainpipe had to be cut out and replaced after this crack appeared.
Over recent months we have been called to houses/flats where the occupants have recently moved in and found a host of plumbing issues i.e showers not working correctly, taps leaking etc.
If your are looking at a property and are close to signing then it may be an idea to give us a call to check all the plumbing, a couple of hours from ourselves could uncover any problems that the surveyor will not of picked up on and will be a good lever when negotiating the final price.
Please give us a call to arrange a check on your prospective purchase to avoid any nasty surprises when you have moved in.
Although not one of our advertised services we had the pleasure of looking after Teddy for one of our older customers who had a fall and had to go into hospital for a couple of days. He seemed to enjoy his stay in the office, i looked after him on the evening.
Traditional washers on taps have been replaced with ceramic inserts which turn from full on to full off in quarter of a turn, as opposed to traditional tap washers which relied on a number of turns to seat the rubber washer and cut off the water, over time it takes more turns to seat as the washer wears out.
Ceramic inserts are more reliable but are prone to dripping when the ceramic disc face is scored through grit in the water. Replacement can be tricky if the make of tap is unknown, sometimes a new tap is the cheapest option rather than time consuming identification.
Pictured below is an example of a typical cartridge with no identification marks other than date manufactured, new taps where the best option.
